Saturday House of Inspiration - Mark D. Sikes

I haven’t done a Saturday House of Inspiration for ages, and figured today is a perfect day to post some pics of Mark D. Sikes’ house. You may have seen some of the first pics in the January issue of House Beautiful, and the others are from Mark’s website.

I feel a real affinity with his sense of style! He’s obviously a collector, and I love that his house is full of ‘stuff’ and layers but that it’s all beautifully arranged, cohesive and doesn’t have a sense of clutter. Many of his bits and pieces are similar to things I own myself - and many more are things that I’d love to have!

Love black-painted rooms, like this bedroom and bathroom (above and below).

I just love this casual sitting area opposite the kitchen- the bookshelves around the windows are gorgeous.

I’ve posted Mark’s courtyard previously (also his kitchen which I didn’t repeat again in this post). It really is a dream - all that natural light streaming through the French doors on both sides of the ground floor…

Stunning, right?

We are off on yet more house-hunting adventures today. I woke up to a whole bunch of emails this morning asking about the house I was to see yesterday and also with stories of your own adventures - thank you so much, I love reading them and will give you a full update next week I promise!

Have a great weekend

Fab wallpapers

Posted in chinoiserie, wallpaper

I mentioned in my last post that I was thinking of using a wallpaper in my bedroom makeover; here it is in a dining room above in a different colourway (above). What do you think? I really like the simple colour scheme here and the way the dark floor and table pops against all the white.

Love this turquoise/black/white scheme too - the chandelier makes it of course!

Here’s an example of the very best place to start using wallpapers if you’re afraid of going bold - the powder room! It’s so nice to get a surprise shot of colour when you walk into these little spaces. And I do love orange and pink toile paired with the crisp white.

Another peek into a powder room..(above)

This is one of my favourites (above). I’ve used the fabric but never the wallpaper, and I’m dying to! What a fabulous hallway.

Love this fun paper for a little kids’ bathroom.

An oldie but a goodie! Chiang Mai Dragon always gives a big punch of chinoiserie to a wall (above).

I’m not sure who makes this paper but I absolutely love it - floral but the muted greens and taupes in it mean that I think (some) men could live with it too..

Have a great Friday - it’s going to be warm, windy and stormy in Melbourne today - lovely! xx

Celerie Kemble in Elle Decor

Isn’t this house designed by Celerie Kemble featured in Elle Decor amazing? Quite traditional but with a few more modern touches, and lots of beautiful shades if blue. To me it just has that feeling of high-end decorating - no ebay bargains here!

Love a good salon arrangement of small artworks.

What an amazing piece of furniture (above)! Love the blue chinoiserie wallpaper and the Chinese celadon vases.

My favourite room in the house has got to be the lacquered powder-blue walk-in wardrobe. This is definitely one for my Dream House!

I love these pictures of raspberry pink, it’s such a gorgeous colour to decorate with! The blue-and-white porcelain looks especially great paired with raspberry wallpaper. And did you notice the hints of mustard yellow in every pic? Mustard and raspberry- who knew?!
