You have probably seen this beautiful blue-and-white arrangement (above). I’ve had it saved for ages in my ‘inspiration files’ but wanted to find out the name of the decorating genius behind it. Well, that genius is designer David Lawrence. This week I am inspired by the rest of this gorgeous blue-and-white Hamptons house. I have posted before on Hamptons style, and I have to say it’s a style I always come back to as a favourite (I know I’m not alone here!).
It’s a classic beach-home palette: blue, white, and neutrals. Those white french doors with the square-pattern transoms over them - and matching windows - have been ingrained on my memory ever since Something’s Gotta Give! If I ever am lucky enough to build a beach house they are an absolute must!
There actually isn’t much neutral/linen colour in the furnishings, but the panel of oatmeal fabric on the tops and bottoms of the curtains brings it in. The blue-and-white striped rug defines the sitting area, but it’s laid over a larger sisal rug that fills the whole room. I love that huge potted palm!
I love putting desks or tables behind sofas - wish I had the space for this at home! (above)
What an amazing house! Double-height entry hall with white coral chandelier, geometric-patterned rugs, sitting area on the upstairs landing, twin bamboo benches, and those staircases! This is truly beach-house perfection for me.
Another rug over the sisal rug (above). It really helps define the space and ties the colour scheme together.
I like the way geometric pattern and clean-lined furniture is used throughout the house to keep it modern, though the colour palette is so classic. Take a look at these build-in bookshelves (above) in the casual tv/living area; the cross-section pattern on the doors (instead of classic moulding), and the fact they are raised off the floor and without architraves keeps the look contemporary.
See you next week! x
