A bit of pastel loveliness

As much as I love bright colour I’m also always drawn to pastels and classical displays of beautiful things. Martha Stewart is really the Queen in my book of subtle muted colours used in elegant displays. I remember many years ago looking through my mum’s interiors magazines and being mesmerized by Martha’s home (can’t remember which one it was now but I remember the big white sink and her penchant for round tables stacked with books and topped with small objects d’art!).

Anyway, it’s been a busy week and I’m greatly looking forward to the school hols that start early tomorrow afternoon, spending time pottering at home with the kids and doing some cooking (still tons of lemons to use). Nothing like cold weather to make one think about food, food and more of the same!

Room with a view..

Isn’t this room amazing? It’s kind of like an upstairs teepee tent for grown-ups! I love the white-washed timber lining and the retro-ish mid-century furniture (and the light fitting in the background - see it?). I could quite happily escape to a little haven like this (especially at some meal times!)…

Beautiful traditional rugs

There’s something very comforting about a beautiful antique rug. They give an amazing injection of warmth into a room. Don’t you love the way the pinks and reds in the rug above relate to the cushion and artwork? (I’m a little jealous of all that natural light, too)

 

 

This art wall (above) with the upholstered bench in front and the orange-toned antique rug really does it for me! The oversized lamp really lends some elegance, don’t you think?

Proof that subtle colours can be just as effective. The shapes in this pic are so interesting- the curve of that deep-buttoned chair and the lines of the bamboo table, I just love this! x

In my neck of the woods..

I have to say I am really loving winter. The bulbs are starting to flower in our garden (thank goodness they can do their thing without any effort on my part), and all the bare trees have given us a view that we don’t usually have, which still gives me a little surprise sometimes when I drive up our street. I’ve always dreamed of misty mornings and smoking chimneys and warm cosy houses when it’s cold outside - I’m not a hot weather gal - so this time of year is heaven for me. I’m also greatly appreciating that it’s nearly the school holidays again (time flies!). Maybe that’s why to me it feels like the week before Christmas - where everything needs to be sorted and wrapped up and finished by the end of this week!

These are some of the happenings in my world..getting these faux-bamboo chairs (above) ready to take to a client’s house. They’ve been sprayed glossy orange, though it looks red here, and paired with green ikat fabric. I think it’ll look fabulous paired with this:

I also spied these bargain white side tables at..wait for it..the Reject Shop! today:

Okay, maybe not the best quality, but still a bargain!
