White

Hello! I’m finally back online after an exceedingly frustrating week of temperamental internet access - and now hoping whatever magic my husband has just worked on my computer holds out! I’ve been witnessing a positive transformation this week of a house I am working on (remember the house on the river with the green carpet?) as it is being painted lovely, fresh white. It is truly amazing what a coat of white paint can do! I’ll post some pics tomorrow if my connection to technology doesn’t fail me..

But on the topic of white and the magic qualities of white paint, these rooms are some of my favourites of the moment- French doors, lots of natural light, high or pitched ceilings, accents in pale neutrals, pastels and black to keep it grounded. And of course I LOVE the paved/brick floors of that dining area.

Decor Heaven

I love everything about this arrangement; the pale greys, greens, blues and whites, the symmetry and the beautiful aged patina of the pieces. Chandeliers and mirrors are a decorating marriage made in heaven, don’t you think? And it helps that I’m a big fan of blue and white ceramics..love it all!

Classics and contrast

I love the contrast in this house between black/white and pale/ dark neutrals. A simple linen bed with trimmed linen, white chair, natural flooring and a touch of nickel is perfection..

The touches of red lend a retro pop to the otherwise classic ‘Hamptons’ style. I’ve said it before, but there’s nothing better to me than a beautiful view through spaces and rooms. I love this view across classic chequered black and white flooring into a light-filled living room (above).

This old-fashioned idea of having the dining table in the kitchen space really appeals to me - no getting stuck in the kitchen and missing all the fun! Plus I love the communal family living that this arrangement lends itself to; weekend cooking, paper reading and homework all happening in the same space. The French chairs look great here and love the pendants.

Check out that ceiling! And the gorgeous symmetrical windows. In fact, this whole room is about symmetry! It’s the dark/light thing that I like here. I always think if you work in layers of dark and light you can’t go wrong.

Love the central table that divides this long room - amazing how flowers or greenery always bring things to life isn’t it?

A white Farewell

First off, I have to apologise for my terrible lack of posts this week! I’ve actually been feeling quite inspired but just haven’t seemed to find the time to sit down and share it. It’s been a bit of a hectic week and on top of the usual work and end-of-term stuff, my big boy turned 7 yesterday. Amazing to think where those seven years have gone, and all the magic that has happened in between!

 

I have a client who mentioned that she wants to have a wall in her entry way covered in framed prints. Straight away I thought of something like this (above): a wall of framed black and white maps or topographical drawings, framed in classic frames above a console that can act as storage and also display, with a couple of chairs on either side. The symmetry of this sort of arrangement always appeals, and I do love a good print/art/photo-covered wall.

I’m really drawn at the moment to these barn-like extensions that house a combined kitchen/living/dining area. I love this one because of the concrete-clad walls around the fridge and because of all the white - white beams/ceilings as well as white floors and white furniture, with some timber thrown in. Can you imagine this being your holiday house? Heaven!

Finally, isn’t this such a neat use of a little bathroom corner? The curved ‘floating’ bench is unobtrusive and I love the little niche below for the towels! My favourite parts of this bathroom though are the floor tiles and the twin high windows, twin industrial pendants offset by the centred mirror.
