Hello! I’m finally back online after an exceedingly frustrating week of temperamental internet access - and now hoping whatever magic my husband has just worked on my computer holds out! I’ve been witnessing a positive transformation this week of a house I am working on (remember the house on the river with the green carpet?) as it is being painted lovely, fresh white. It is truly amazing what a coat of white paint can do! I’ll post some pics tomorrow if my connection to technology doesn’t fail me..
But on the topic of white and the magic qualities of white paint, these rooms are some of my favourites of the moment- French doors, lots of natural light, high or pitched ceilings, accents in pale neutrals, pastels and black to keep it grounded. And of course I LOVE the paved/brick floors of that dining area.
Until tomorrow (fingers crossed!).

Hi Naomi,
I love your website.
White walls and cabinetry always looks so fresh, and as you indicate, it can be easily accented with any colours - bright or pastel.
There are so many ‘white’ shades of paint around. What would you recommend for a bright, north-facing living area? I guess the walls and cabinetry should be the same shade of white?

Hi Margaret, there are obviously a lot of shades of white that could work for you, it depends if you want a cool or warm white. The best way is always to pick up some sample pots of a few shades and try them in the room, as they always look different on the wall to on the paint swatch! And I wouldn’t necessarily paint the cabinetry and woodwork the same as the walls, you might want to contrast them with a pure white or use a 50% tint of your wall colour for a more harmonious look. Beautiful images of white rooms, Naomi. I do love the top room, a cross between Hamptons style and a mountain chalet!
