A little shopping

I stopped into Coco Republic this week to do a little shopping for clients, though whenever I shop for clients I invariably find some things I’d like for myself too. This bedroom display was an example, as I can’t seem to go past blue and white! Love the buttoned bed and the chinoiserie- inspired fabrics.

These blue/green jars caught my eye for a room I am working on at the moment in these colours. I really liked the scallop pattern and the colour of the jar on the right, but not the $500 price tag!

But I did find these rattan and cane chairs for a client’s outdoor room- these are discontinued so on sale- gotta love that! I’m going to ditch the back cushion so you can see the great rattan chair back and use a lower lumbar cushion instead.

I really liked this Ralph Lauren brass coffee table, which was also on sale.

Loved the warm colours and the plaid pattern on this winged bedroom chair.

Here’s the bedroom set-up to accompany the chair. Can you imagine these rusts and dark greens in your winter hunting lodge? So can I.

Really liked these brass and black marble side tables. I’ve seen this table in a smaller version but this one is big enough for a lamp and is very sturdy.

I absolutely loved this aqua and brown chinoiserie armchair. It would be such a great starting piece to base a room around in this colour scheme.

And what do you know, some matching cushions!

Fabulous moss-green velvet dining chairs with nickel studs.

The green velvet chairs paired with these palm leaf artworks created a real ‘Plantation-chic’ vibe which would look so great on the coast or in Queensland!

There’s nothing like a ceramic lamp to bring a shot of colour- loved this Ralph Lauren green version (above).

This photo doesn’t show the colours too well, but I do like navy and white paired with a fresh shade of green.

Summer blues and my favourite garden

Well I guess summer has officially arrived- the past two days have been rather warmer than I would like! I am certain I will have mentioned in previous posts that I am not a hot weather sort of person- give me a grey stormy beach walk or cocoa by the fire over a hot summer’s day every time! This weather is reminding me why dark reds don’t really go hand-in-hand with Christmas in Australia, not in the same way that the colour lends warmth and richness to a Christmas in a colder climate- sometimes it’s just too hot to crave warm colours! So my thoughts are straying away from traditional Christmas colours today and towards soothing blues and greens..

I love this room (above) because of the blues and greens, the mix of patterns and because it has a bit of an English country manor vibe to it.

One of my all-time favourite libraries! Not long after I started this blog I remember doing a post on blue libraries (read it here)- and I am still obsessed with them! This one has it all for me: the grey-blue colour, the flowing silk curtains (for me loose, flowing curtains correspond to an active and wandering imagination, so they are the perfect complement to a library!), the symmetry, the bookshelves and ladder. All beautiful.

I love these very subtle blues and greens mixed with neutrals (above). Those barn doors seem to be popping up all over the place, and I like these ones because they are full-height. The herringbone brick floors (which I covet big-time) with steps leading up to the kitchen makes the room infinitely more interesting.

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned (probably more than once) that I wanted to get some brass lamps (here and also here- the ones I ended up buying). Well I picked them up today which gave me the chance to stop with the kids to visit my parents-in-law, whose home and garden is one my favourite places, particularly on a hot day. It’s just so beautiful and inspires me every time to apply greater activity towards my own green-thumb aspirations..

As I have been writing this post it has started to rain here which means the arrival of a cool change - lovely!! Hope you’re having a great weekend.

Celerie Kemble in Elle Decor

Isn’t this house designed by Celerie Kemble featured in Elle Decor amazing? Quite traditional but with a few more modern touches, and lots of beautiful shades if blue. To me it just has that feeling of high-end decorating - no ebay bargains here!

Love a good salon arrangement of small artworks.

What an amazing piece of furniture (above)! Love the blue chinoiserie wallpaper and the Chinese celadon vases.

 

My favourite room in the house has got to be the lacquered powder-blue walk-in wardrobe. This is definitely one for my Dream House!

Hello again and some new additions

Well, it feels like I’ve been away from my computer for ages, which I suppose is a good thing. We have had an extra-long weekend, given that there was no school last Friday. It’s given me a chance to get onto some boring-but-necessary-and-nobody-else-is-going-to-do-it jobs around the house, as well as do some sorting of things in my office. The advantage of boring jobs is that they don’t require a whole lot of brain power so I did a lot of thinking about colours and fabric combinations I’d like to try (yes, this is what goes on in my mind most of the time!), and also things I’d like to buy for the house (my wishlist). Actually, I’ve been fantasising about buying a new house (more light, more rooms to decorate, you know the story), but that’s another post altogether.

I still have that tin of turquoise paint that I am thinking of using to update my small entry hall (which I agonised over here and here). I thought it might be a great backdrop to one of the faux-bamboo tables I ordered recently:

I also have an old cane mirror in the front hall that I could paint, and a new little chinoiserie ceramic planter that would look great against the turquoise walls if I potted it with an orchid…anyway you see the thread of my weekend musings!

Other excitement over the weekend was when I stumbled across an out-of-the-way second hand shop, which was full of both junk and some hidden treasures. These kinds of places are my favourite, and I literally dream of finding little junk shops full of stuff you have to sort through, where everything is $2-$5. Well, I found one!

This is a picture of most of my haul taken when I first got home. The most expensive thing was the pair of paintings, which were $15 for the pair! Most of these will find their way into clients’ homes but I’m already using the pretty chinoiserie plate ($2) as a catch-all for keys etc when we come in the front door.
