Work in progress

This beautiful Madeline Weinrib rug came in yesterday for a project I am working on in Adelaide. For the master bedroom my client and I decided on a scheme mainly of yellow and green, with the main pieces of furniture all in black or white, and with some touches of pink and purple in the bed cushions.

We wanted a bit of an eclectic look, with hints of luxury, Asian and ethnic styles all combined. With the rug we are using some bright yellow ginger jar lamps, an inlaid bone stool and some touches of suzani, ikat and Florence Broadhurst fabrics. It sounds like a lot for one room I know, but it’s going to be fabulous and beautiful!

Purple rugs, walls and tv apartments

Posted in fabrics, purple, rugs

I’m a little laid up at the moment with some sort of flu/bug so happened to be watching (after my last post I sound like a tv addict!) How I Met Your Mother in bed late last night. It was the episode starring Katie Holmes and in it her apartment was painted a nice shade of purple and teamed with green silky curtains. It put into mind all the purple in Jules Reid’s house (top two pics) featured in Matchbook magazine. I love the relaxed, casual white base of her home teamed with bold colour. Her Madeline Weinrib rugs are a fantastic starting point to her colour scheme! I’ve used both these rugs before and I have to say I never get sick of seeing them. I also love the soft purples of the office above, with its matching purple curtains and hints of dusky pinks and greens.

And on the topic of purple tv apartments, remember the most famous of them all? (clue: from Friends)

Ode to Madeline Weinrib rugs!

I sent off this gorgeous Madeline Weinrib rug to one of my Sydney clients this morning:

I can’t wait to see it in situ!! The shade of pink is amazing. And it has me pondering the glorious other rug options. The colours and the patterns have amazing impact in any room; and I just love them!

On my mind this Saturday are..

I am itching to change something in my house today. Move something around, paint something, buy something new, re-hang, re-cover, re-locate and generally mix things up. This feeling does take hold every now and then and I can’t rest until I do something to get it out of the system. And sometimes changing the cushions just won’t do the trick.

There are a few things on my mind that aren’t helping matters. Let me show you.

First, there’s this room:

One of my favourite living rooms ever. And I want mine to be more like it. The colours, the mix of styles and shapes and pattern, I just love it. And I really want (I know I sound like a broken record on this point) to introduce more colour on the walls, and I’ve been thinking for awhile now that either pale blue, grey-purple or a dusky pink like this would be perfect (not consulted husband yet).

Then, there’s this:

I saw this block printed cotton over at Full House earlier this week and I can’t stop thinking about it, and how much I love that long sofa pillow on the turquoise french bench. Every since I’ve been scouring ebay to find a similar sofa and etsy to find a similar fabric. It’s only a matter of time!

Also, this:

has me thinking about modern art and retro furniture, and finding a cool vintage chair to recover in pink leather!

Then, I’m also thinking about whether I have room to order a new Madeline Weinrib rug, because I really, really like this:

I wonder where you can buy elephant consoles like this one?

Have a great Saturday!
