Decorating Dilemma - Octagonal Mirror

Posted in Latest Find

You might remember I recently bought a big octagonal mirror on ebay. Well now I am trying to decide what to do with it, whether to paint the frame black, white or leave as is, which is a bronze-coloured metal. So I’ve been looking for inspiration and found my new favourite living room:

traditional home

I love the way it’s classic but far from cluttered - the decor is made up of a collection of ‘big’ statement pieces, and each one is beautiful on its own. Also it’s classic without being stuffy traditional. I want something covered in that white and black trellis fabric! - and love the unconventional pairing with the leopard print and traditional rug.

But anyway, I’m talking about mirrors today. The one above is obviously timber, but I like it because the rusticity of it jars slightly with the more formal elements of the room, like the marble fireplace.

Here’s another gorgeous neautral-toned art wall - I can’t get enough of them - with a white-framed octagonal mirror as a centrepoint.

In this much-blogged image from Lonny a bamboo-framed octagonal mirror is a nice counterpoint to the green drawers and white ceramic lamps. Such a gorgeous display!

Gotta love the symmetry! A mirror looks great over a sofa to reflect an art wall opposite, but is part of a more cohesive wall arrangement when surrounded by pictures. I like the way the turqoise vases tie in with the couch cover fabric.

What great drama. Love this black bathroom as an idea for a bathroom with no window. Why not embrace the darkness and make it interesting? The venetial-style octagonal mirror really makes the space - imagine how dull it would be with a plain rectangular mirror!

Michelle Adams (co-founderof Lonny mag) is a decorating genius. Her apartment is small but harmonious and so gorgeous. Her octagonal mirror above the sofa is what I want mine to look like (kinda), the white frame matches the room but the shape makes it stand out. Love those curtains and the wallapaper is fab too.

I like this black octagonal mirror frame for a more masculine look. Here’s a reminder of my mirror (pic from the ebay listing. It looks small but it’s actually 88cm across):

What a great score! It looks good as is but I think it would really pop if you painted it white and hung it on a dark wall - like in the black bathroom. I never noticed that octagonal mirrors are everywhere!
