A possible rug find?

Posted in Shopping

My sister and I popped over to Spotlight this afternoon to buy supplies for a little project, and while we were there spied these colourful striped rugs. Spotlight is not the first place I’d think of to find a half-decent rug, but the colours in these begged me to make a closer inspection.

Turns out they are handmade in India and only $100, at 60% off(!). We thought they looked a little missoni-esque(?). The lighter one in particular could look really great in a living space and gives you some great colours to draw from. I liked the colours in the other one but once it was rolled out it looked a bit too dark for me and, I swear, EXACTLY like the carpet in my childhood Sunday school.

They also had a couple of nice cushions that, if you took them out of the context of most of the other cheapo-looking ones, could look fantastic - notably this turquoise and purples ikat silk ($20):

On today’s wishlist..

I’ve decided I must need a bigger house so that I have rooms to house all the beautiful things I keep coming across. I’ll need several dozen ceilings alone for all the gorgeous chandeliers I’d love to hang, and as for chairs to cover with fabrics and cushions!- don’t get me started. These are some of the things I’m ogling right now: think a turquoise/ blue room, punches of black and white, hints of gold.

turquoise chandelier

greek key cushions

gold leaf pendant

Or even:

regatta pendant

rug by madeline weinrib

black and white chevron ginger jar

dark shell-inlaid table

Carter chair

blue chevron curtains

Have a great Tuesday!

Wonderful decorating day

Posted in fabrics, Latest Find

My two favourite things in the world would have to be decorating and antique/junk shopping, and today I had a little bit (or a lot) of both. I had to look at fabrics for a couple of jobs I am doing (I’ll post about them soon!), so got to immerse myself in the wonderful world of fabric houses for several hours. There are so many gorgeous fabrics out there, including these beauties (from Schumacher of course):

I also managed to squeeze in some shopping and found a few treasures: an etching to add to my ‘etching wall’ (though I may change the brown matt to a white one) for $5, a boat oil painting to add to my collection that am planning to put on a wall in my boys’ room ($2 can you believe it?) and an old etched-glass (you can’t see the etchings on it in the pic) champagne bucket. It need a good clean then I’ll fill it with shells and coral. The chair in the pic is one of a pair I picked up on ebay a little while ago (read about it here), and I have yet to do anything with them. I want to re-paint the frame and recover them too. I have been counting my blessings today.

Victoria Hagan for Target

I get very frustrated sometimes by the lack of inexpensive and stylish homewares in Australia. There are really no large chain-stores that carry an extensive range of good homewares for the small budget, though from what I gather there are several in the U.S. (like homegoods). And I’m not talking IKEA (though I love Ikea). Target in Australia will occasionally have a stylish mirror or cushion, but I am very jealous of Americans who have access to the wonderful (and cheap) designer homewares available at U.S. Target stores, particularly the range by designer Victoria Hagan (though I believe it’s now discontinued- or sold out!). Her interiors are refined and classic, and her homeware range reflects the same aesthetic (which suits me to a tee):

What a gorgeous patterned vase (above), and that white stool is beautiful! I am using the white mirror above for inspiration for my own mirror makeover (see previous post).

Isn’t her line fab? I love it all. Maybe it’s a good thing we don’t have it here, because I’d be down there buying one of everything and pairs of those gorgeous ceramic lamps! I contacted Target in Australia to find out why we don’t have these wonderful things in our stores and was told that the Oz and U.S. stores are completely unconnected and source their products independently of one another. What a shame!
