Colour Love - Black and White

Posted in black and white

This morning a friend commented that I always wear pearl earrings, and my response was that when I wear big, colourful jewellery it just doesn’t feel like ‘me’. It’s often the same with decorating; although I flirt with colour and go through phases of loving bold pattern and bright spaced, deep down I am a Classic kind of girl. And what could be more classic than black and white? It can be masculine or feminine, it can make a big statement in terms of style but it’s easy to live with and timeless at the same time.

I love this image (above). What makes it for me? The double-height room (on my future wish-list for my house!), the etched-glass doors and the wall of black-and-white-themed framed pictures. This image inspired me to start one at my house, though I stick only to etchings and original drawings, all in black or fine gold frames. The funny thing about this pic for me is that although it’s an ad for Laura Ashley, the only thing about it that doesn’t work and that I would change is the rug (sorry Laura Ashley)! A black and white striped one would add some drama and be a modern play-off against the traditional-style armchairs.

Wow, I want a black-painted room somewhere! Love the black table too.
