Is it somewhat ironic that the day after I post about seeing the same thing over and over again in the design world (see yesterday’s post), that I stumble across and buy what is surely one of the most recognisable decorating items around today: chinese foo dogs.
I’ve seen red ones and white ones but the turquoise dogs are the ones we see all over the design blog-world. They always look great, though. The ones I bought today were ridiculously cheap because of some small repair work on one of the paws- though you only notice it up close:
My photo (above) needs some flowers desperately! But you get the drift anyway.
Talk about a pop of colour (above)! The foo dogs provide just enough of the turquoise to accent against the orange.
Okay, so there’s no actual foo dogs in this room (above), but the same turquoise ceramic in the horse and figurine give a similar effect.

Nice purchase & thanks for the mention
Yes Naomi, you have a real flair for grouping things together simply but with a fab end result. I have loads of stuff as you know but am so unsure of where and how to place things. I would love to get my hands of some of your gorgeous books. In fact I have just been thinking I should turn my habit of collecting to books rather than furniture and décor. I notice your other bargain find ice bucket along side your foo dogs. I am a bit old and slow and have never seen or heard of foo dogs. I do have a pair of silver lions that are along the same idea, maybe I should paint them aqua. I do find myself stealing some of your ideas, well lots really, hope you don’t mind?!
Hi Lynne, thank you for proving the point that in fact not everyone has seen those ‘cliche’ decorating devices that others (usually design blog addicts) know so well! Yes my etched iced bucket did have a stint filled with shells and coral as I sad I’d do but now is doing service as a big vase. Email me some pics of your surfaces and bits and pieces and I’ll see if I can help you regarding table arrangements! I love books and think they are absolutely essential in decorating every house so go for it!

i love your art grouping and how you grouped your books in the bookcase by color!
Hi Kristie, thanks for the nice comment! - colour-coded books: an oldie but a goodie! Mind you, I only do it with my decorating books, all the ‘regular’ (read: not so special) books are just shelved randomly! Have a great rest-of-the-weekend! Naomi x
