Seafoam and duck egg blue

Remember that kitchen with the seafoam green/blue splashback tiles from the tv show Revenge? Here’s a refresher:

Well I have been thinking about that kitchen and all the other places I’ve seen that beautiful ocean-inspired colour used. It looks stunning in tiles to bring just a hint of colour into a kitchen or bathroom (especially in a Hamptons-inspired house!):

Or used for cabinetry or in lighting and accessories:

Of course these colours work great in bedrooms and living areas too. A combination I particularly love is duck-egg blue paired with taupe or shades of brown. Here’s an example in a  bedroom:

When I think of seafoam fabrics, the most famous that springs to mind is ‘Riad’ in seafoam by Windsor Smith. Here it is used in her own home:

I’ve used this fabric in other colourways several times but never in the seafoam. After revisiting these pics I’m inspired to try to find a place to use it! Joni from Cote de Texas also used it when she helped her neighbour redecorate:

The walls in this open-plan space (above) are also painted in a ‘seafoam’ colour. Here’s another ‘Hamptons’ living space using duck egg blues:

So, could you live in a house entirely decked out in these colours? I think I could.

My sister is in town for the weekend so I’m looking forward to a fabulous time. Hope your weekend is marvellous.

Things I saw today that I liked

Yes, you’ve probably seen this house before (I posted pics of the kitchen here, the entry way here and the pink living room here), but I love this view from the pink room through to the dark grey kitchen.

I am a serious sucker for simple iron windows and doors. This view to a leafy garden and pool and the tall iron framed door is my idea of heaven!! On this topic have you seen the latest issue of Vogue Living? This house is my latest favourite, and it too features iron doors at the back looking onto the garden:

It’s a stunning house, and went straight to the ‘home build inspiration file’!

This pale room of whites and greys also really appeals- linen slip covers, an incredible fireplace and even some attractive grey birch logs to decorate the grate. I’m intrigued to know what’s up that hint of staircase to the right though..

Fun and fabulous blocks of bright colour! Raspberry and lime truly has a lot of punch as a colour scheme! I love this too.

Some navy reminiscing

Posted in beautiful blue

Remember that design series on tv last year? I can’t even remember the name of it – maybe Homemade? Anyway, you might remember that the eventual winner, Jason Sullivan, used a dark navy blue shade from Wattyl quite a few times throughout the series. See the living room and bedroom above and below.

It seemed to me that this combination of dark navy blue and crisp white paired with different natural textures was a real winner.

I remember liking it a lot at the time and I have been thinking about navy blue walls again lately. Navy is such a classic colour, elegant yet enveloping, and has always been my go-to colour (thinking mainly clothing here I suppose) – though I’ve never painted my walls with it.

I love that it’s a masculine sort of colour, but look how beautiful it can be paired with delicate, feminine-patterned wallpaper with subtle hints of lilac (above).

I’ve posted this room before (above), the navy dining room where the white really pops in chairs and curtains, but it’s one of my favourites.

Now, here’s an idea that I’ve really been stewing over: a navy blue kitchen, with stainless steel, white and charcoal to add different textures and play against the blue. Sophisticated, no?

Of course, when thinking dark blue kitchens, Windsor Smith’s is the benchmark. Remember her floor of tiny white marble tiles and the dark blue shelving across the windows? This is my kitchen dream!

Lots of white to relieve the blue: check.

A true marriage of classics: navy blue and white calcutta marble look so beautiful together. Powder rooms are really a great place to be brave with pattern/brights/dark colour, and this is fabulously moody. Moody spaces are just what I feel like on freezing and rainy afternoons like this one!

Some of my all-time favourites

I’m a little rushed this morning but I always have time for my favourites from Windsor Smith! For me her work strikes the perfect balance between classic, colourful and eclectic. This is in my ‘dream kitchen’ file: plenty of stylish storage, a dose of chinoiserie and a pop of colour against classic black-and-white. I also love that the beautiful floors are not fussied up with a rug.

I’m a sucker for stylish bookshelves and these are among my favourites. There are lots of classic elements that appeal to me here: the dark wood floors, marble steps to the right, sisal rug, bookshelves over the doorway and a glimpse through to another couple of (gorgeous) rooms. Add some classic-style furniture, some colour-coded books, chinese blue-and-white and a hint of ikat and I’m in heaven!

A tablescape from the famous pink living room (above), and a perfect masculine -meets-tropical style below. I love them all!

Have a Happy Friday!
