World’s most beautiful bathroom and office?

I’m off shortly to take the kids to the country for the weekend. It’s amazing how getting out of the city just for a day or two can leave you feeling refreshed and as though you’ve been on holiday. Of course I also plan to stop at some antique shops along the way (despite the difficulty in navigating them with 3 children in tow!) to hunt for treasures.

I’ve been posting a lot of bold colour and geometrics and pattern lately but even though I love all that I am reminded this morning as I look through my photo collection that my first, true love is spaces like the ones above; elegant, ‘grown-up’, french-influenced, neutral with hints of lavender, grey, cream and gold. I hope one day I’ll be grown up enough to have an office like this one!

My weekend project!

I know I have mentioned it a few times before, but I’m really stuck on the idea of trying my hand at some abstract paintings. Yes, I know that it’s not as easy as it looks, and my mum is an artist so I totally get and respect the time, thought and skill behind every painting. But I figure when a blank canvas costs around $30 I haven’t got much to lose.

I really like the idea of something graphic and black and white. Also I can’t help but think that painting a canvas in black and white might be easier for me than using colour! The simple white frame below gives the art some added legitimacy, don’t you think? I love the pairing of modern abstract art with ornate antiques, like the french sofa below.

I wonder if this look would be achievable with cheap acrylic paint and lots of water? (above)

I don’t think I’d be game to try this just yet (above), but I do love the bold colours against that grey/blue wall.

This arrangement (above) really appeals to me – I love the shades of turquoise and the shapes – and of course the simple abstract painting. I wonder if you’d need to feel angry to paint something like this?

Ah…simple and serene. Love the tones of white and grey here, and the very simple artwork (painting? photo?). The framing makes it look a liittle more refined and up-market than a plain stretched canvas, and echoes the border on the rug.

I’m not sure which colour I’ll attempt, I guess it depends what jumps out at me at the craft shop. If I’m not too ashamed of the product I’ll share it with you next week. Happy Weekend!!
