In my neck of the woods..

I have to say I am really loving winter. The bulbs are starting to flower in our garden (thank goodness they can do their thing without any effort on my part), and all the bare trees have given us a view that we don’t usually have, which still gives me a little surprise sometimes when I drive up our street. I’ve always dreamed of misty mornings and smoking chimneys and warm cosy houses when it’s cold outside – I’m not a hot weather gal – so this time of year is heaven for me. I’m also greatly appreciating that it’s nearly the school holidays again (time flies!). Maybe that’s why to me it feels like the week before Christmas – where everything needs to be sorted and wrapped up and finished by the end of this week!

These are some of the happenings in my world..getting these faux-bamboo chairs (above) ready to take to a client’s house. They’ve been sprayed glossy orange, though it looks red here, and paired with green ikat fabric. I think it’ll look fabulous paired with this:

I also spied these bargain white side tables at..wait for it..the Reject Shop! today:

Okay, maybe not the best quality, but still a bargain!

There’s also a sneak peak of some help I’ve given Ellise over at the Charles Whyte blog with her living room curtains, if you want to check it out..

A new favourite designer: Kimberley Ayres

I’ve been admiring the work of designer Kimberley Ayres lately. Her rooms are always fun and I love the way she uses colour. This dining room (above) caught my eye awhile ago. I love the zinc table and the white-on-taupe moulding, but I really love that it’s such a small room, but that she’s made it such an appealing space. Let’s say you have a little room that you want to actually use, but it looks on to another room and has no sense of being a separate space. Or maybe it looks straight into the bathroom or laundry! The room is too small to accommodate doors opening into it, and you don’t want it to be too closed off or hard to access. The perfect solution? A flat panel of colourful fabric that matches the curtains and that serves to close off and decorate at the same time!

Shades of sea green/blue. I’ll take that seafoam-coloured lacquered desk and the coral light fitting please! (Why don’t we have stuff like this in Australia?)

There is nothing I don’t love here!

The lady herself. I adore the shape of the bedhead. Note all the warm colours she uses: ochres, yellows and browns, it makes these rooms so welcoming and friendly.

There’s my chandelier again (above)! Mirrored walls are so great in dining rooms I think, it really does double the sense of space. And of course, faux-bamboo chairs and zebra rugs (poor zebra) work for me, too.

Doesn’t Imeperial Trellis work great as the dominant fabric in this living room (above)? Note also the strip of greek-key trim down the back of the armchair; I love those little details. Target has a white horse-head exactly like the one above at the moment for $40!

Faux Bamboo chairs for sale

Posted in Uncategorized

After doing a post on them last week, it seems that faux-bamboo ‘chippendale’ style chairs are my chairs of the week! If you love this style but not the usual price tag, I may have a bargain for you. I have a set of 4 faux bamboo dining chairs (the ones without the arms) available for sale at the low-low price of $350 each (they usually sell for $600-650 and up). These 4 are currently unpainted, in a natural oak timber finish (see pic below) with plain padded seats ready for upholstering (fyi- these are dead-easy to upholster yourself!). Perfect for a breakfast table, or pair them with two matching armchairs at either end of a dining table Windsor Smith-style. A painted finish will cost a little extra. I am of course happy to help select and source any gorgeous fabric for the lucky buyer! If you’re interested please shoot me an email.
