We need some new Chistmas Stockings. Our current ones are awful, green and red with pictures of Santa and reindeers on them (ugh!) and made of wool so that when filled with presents they look like long lumpy sausages. I have been keen on getting new ones for the past few years but it always seemed a low priority.
But what I’d really like is some linen or burlap (hessian) ones that are fairly plain, and then pair them with white an silver – I think I could happily do this combination year after year and never get sick of it! Isn’t this image (above) from Holly Mathis Interiors soo beautiful? It’s not just the stockings (made from old sacks) either, it’s the lovely fireplace, old books, delicate topiarys and that wire firescreen – I have to find out where to get one of those!
But I have a question, are stockings for the whole family or just for the kids? Since I’m the only one in the family who fills them I’d feel ridiculous having one for myself! My eldest son loves the idea of five neat stockings hanging from the fireplace mantel – he obviously saw this on a movie somewhere – and from a purely decorative point of view, this would look great if they were nice linen ones! I love the simple linen stocking above from Red Door Home on etsy(US$40).
I love this long advent stocking garland. And I really, really, love that staircase!
What a great mantelpiece display of greenery and candles! I like the idea of personalised stockings and the quilting is nice too. But my favourites:
I have also toyed with the idea of clourful modern stockings like these from plum cushion on etsy:
The problem is that all of these stockings are in the U.S.! It’s hard to find nice christmas stockings made from linen and hessian here in Australia, especially affordable options. Thank you etsy!

You HAVE to have your own stocking! I buy myself luxury soaps & body sprays and things that I want for Christmas day like lipstick, bangles etc and then the traditional things (tradition in our family): toothpaste and toothbrush, fruit and nuts. When I was a kid we had a fire place and I loved seeing the stockings hanging in a row and then next morning seeing them all overflowing. Adults don’t do presents in my family (apart from Kris K) but Mum gave me a stocking every Christmas until I moved out at 25!
