(Thanks for the emails alerting me to a problem viewing the pics in this post earlier! I think it’s fixed now!)
If you are a regular reader of this blog you will have picked up on the fact that I’m on the lookout for a new house. My little house is great for now but it’s dark and needs to be extended and renovated or possibly rebuilt. On top of that I have discovered I get a little bored in a house at around the 3-4 year mark, and start getting itchy feet to move on and find a new project. But also it’s just fun looking at houses!
So, on the weekend I went and looked at this ugly duckling:
It’s on a steep hillside and has amazing views. My dream is a modern house on a hillside with views. There’s something about having an outlook that to me makes a small house with a view preferable to a big house with no outlook. Anyway this house needs major updating but I loved the spaces and could picture exactly what I’d do to it. I love the square shape of it and I love all the stairs leading up to the front door! I had visions of turning it into a smaller version of this:
I have this dream of a white modern box on a hillside obviously!
But, I also love French-style homes and homes with character and lots of pretty greenery, so I wondered if I could turn the ugly duckling house into something that more closely resembles this house (Eric’s house from Entourage- have you seen it? I LOVE that house!):
I’d need to change the horizontal railing bars to some simple wrought iron ones (more kid-friendly anyway), put in some French doors and add lots of plants. I’d also change the garage doors to something like this:
It’s all a fun mental exercise that I like to play. Beautiful modern or beautiful classic? I can’t decide!
