Today at my home

Like a lot of people I’ve been laid up at home with a cold (is it winter already? not technically, but I’m feeling the symptoms). Hence my failure to post a Saturday House of Inspiration yesterday – I plan to post one during the week. So, it’s been a chance to take it slightly easier than normal, start sorting through my horrendously large pile of magazines awaiting my attention, and to get onto some small jobs around the house. Today, I am:

Enjoying some of the last vestiges of greenery in my garden before it becomes a sticky winter garden – I don’t have many flowers planted yet but I love the green and brown magnolia leaves,

and the last purple flowers on the wisteria.

Admiring my cute gold china teaset ($6 for the set!)

Just like the one I saw at the antique fair a few weeks ago, (which I posted about here):

I’m contemplating a colour and finish for this pair of lamps, which are currently painted with flowers, but I want to do something more modern with them. I’m thinking green or purple bases with shades also trimmed with colour, or maybe white with patterned fabric on the shades..

Either way the lamps are to sit on either end of this buffet, which I bought this week.

I’m still feeling inspired by this home (in Vogue Living which I posted about here), and want to use more of the colour from one of my mum’s paintings; purple, pink green and blue.

Soo, I’m also deciding what to recover these chairs in. I’m leaning towards the Peter Dunham paisley – gorgeous right?

Hope you’re enjoying a great weekend! x

  2. So many pretty things in your place, I love the gold tea set, what a SCORE! That chair is also going to look amazing, are you recovering it yourself?!?

Not sure if I have the capability to do it myself! Though I’d love to to save $$! x

I am a lamp person, too! And a mirorr person also. Love the idea of sideboard/chest of drawers and lamps very much. We have one here and I am still looking for something to put in a hall way (plus a lamp and a mirorr). One more thing you’ll need to think of when choosing the “base” for your lamps – a chest of drawers helps to conceal all the cables where as the side board (unless the back is a solid piece) will leave everything, the cables, the switches, etc. on a show. Have a wonderful day, Lisa! xxx
