Vintage Whites and Taupe (Country Living)

Posted in neutrals, white

Today I bought the latest issue of Country Living magazine (Feb 2011) and boy has it got my inspiration going. It’s the ‘White’ issue and is so full of gorgeous white rooms. When I first opened my copy I was having such an audible reaction to it (lots of oh wow!/oh i love it!etc.) – my husband thinks I am crazy – he just doesn’t get it!

While I don’t like everything in a room to be ‘shabby’, I absolutely love a mix of vintage vases, candlesticks, linens etc with newer bits and pieces, and some mercury glass and old gilt thrown in too. Plus, when you love these things it makes antique and junk shopping fun, because you can keep adding to your cellection! Don’t all these neutral and white-hued things look gorgeous together:

I couldn’t find the images from the current mag onthe website but here is a little peek (below two pics). The house in the top right corner is beyond lovely – all taupe and white upholstery, displays of white and silver, mixed with shells, piles of old white suitcases and collections of vinatge white-framed mirrors.

This image (above) is from the same issue, taken in a house in San Francisco - what a beautiful window!

Is it ok to show Christmas displays when it’s not Christmas time? I think so. I love the shades of white and pale grey.

  1. Hi Naomi! Lovely, lovely post! I adore white and neutrals too.
Great blog. Thanks for stopping by mine!
Oh and by the way, you’re on my blog roll :) )
    Hope you’re having a great w/end

  2. I love the whites, too, but I need an accent color somewhere to make me happy. Against whites, you can just use a few accessories with an accent color and make the room really fun. And it’s so flexible to use whites – when you tire of one look, just change those accessories to a different color!
